What to Expect Along the Way
We’ll start our walk exploring Porth yr Ogof cave; the largest cave entrance in Wales measuring 17 metres wide by 5 metres high before embarking on the 5.5 mile ‘Four Falls Trail’ which takes in Sgwd Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd y Pannwr and Sgwd yr Eira. The first three waterfalls are on the Afon Mellte while the last is on the Afon Hepste.
The primary path is made from flat gravel surfaces but as you drop down to the river beds to view the falls the paths and steps become steep and very slippery and so great care and good mobility is needed. Note that the descents/ascents to the waterfalls are optional and for those that don’t want to take these sections on, can stay up on the higher circular path.
Cwm Porth car park is served with a visitor information centre, public toilets and a small kiosk serving snacks and drinks (card payments only).
Car Sharing
If you’d like to car share or offer lifts to members of the group to cut down on transport costs, please meet at Newtown Llantwit Community Centre, Crown Hill (Postcode CF38 2NA) ready to depart at 8:30am. There is a free car park here to leave vehicles for the day.
Arrival
We recommend arriving at least 15-20 minutes before the walk/event start time. It’s a great opportunity to meet the event leaders, register and catch up with your fellow Marauders before we start.
Parking
Pay and Display parking is available at Cwm Porth Car Park, charged at £4 for the day. Card and cash payments accepted.
Registration
You will be asked for your name, your mobile telephone number along with an emergency contact name and number. If you have any relevant medical conditions or medication that may be relevant to declare, please pass this information to the event leader during registration.
If you already have your Marauders digital ID, great – we’ll just scan you in. If not, you can pre-register and get your very own QR code beforehand here –

Be Prepared – Health, Wellbeing & Weather
Participation in this event is entirely at your own risk, and it is your sole responsibility to ensure you are physically fit and well enough to take part. This includes being appropriately dressed for the event/weather and carrying any personal or emergency medication you may require during the activity.
Dogs
Well behaved dogs are welcome on this walk but must be carefully supervised at all times and kept on a lead when necessary. At times we will be walking very close to fast-flowing waters. We will also be crossing and walking along some roads.
