Join us in the Caerphilly valley this week. We visit Parc Penallta, a scenic country park transformed from a former coal tip into a massive outdoor green space. Key features of the park are ‘Sultan the Pit Pony’ – a huge figurative earth sculpture honouring the pit ponies that worked in the local coal mines. Also the ‘High Point Observatory’ – a high viewpoint offering wide, panoramic views across the valleys. We will park then walk from Nelson Handball court where there is street parking and walk the 6 mile circular route. Refreshments will be at ‘The Railway Inn’ at Nelson. Good boots needed as it can be muddy and take waterproofs just in case please.
This is a Grade 4 Walk of 5 hours and 6 miles
