Marauder Testimonials

We love hearing all about our Marauders' experiences and the benefits it brings to their lives. Read some of their stories here.

We love to hear what you think of you think of your experiences at the Marauders. Here’s what you’ve told us……

Jeremy says…

I joined The Marauders three years ago as I was struggling with grief and mental health issues. I didn’t see age as a factor as the gents are quite a bit older than me. These gents took me under their wing and it’s been a fabulous time to chat share stories and be there for one another. I love it so much I became a trustee and now an employee. It’s one big family and I am incredibly grateful to you all.

Paul told us…

I have now been a part of the Marauders Men’s Health family for around 3 years. I had been walking alone in my local area for some time as part of my recovery from having a heart attack and noticed a post from the Marauders RCT group saying they had a group walk planned close by. Although I had some reservations about walking with a group and meeting new people I went on the day and had a fantastic time with great people who I now class as good friends. Since that walk I’ve been on around 40 different walks with the group and seen so many places I would never have done without them. I can’t always make the Wednesday walks due to work commitments so I try and pick new walks that are posted to book leave for. It doesn’t matter how long it’s been since your last walk…you’re always welcomed back!! I’ve also had the pleasure of two trips to Snowdonia with the group and loved every minute of it with another trip planned there in July this year. The Christmas meal get together is another special occasion and another opportunity to show our camaraderie!! It’s great to see the group growing all the time and arranging so many other activities in the region to get men healthy in mind and body and hopefully there will be the opportunity for walks on other days/evenings/weekends in the future that will give me a better chance of attending more regularly!! I just wish I lived closer to the Marauders main hub and had more free time available!! Sincerely hope that funding continues and the group grows and gets even better going forward.

John commented…

When I retired in 2023 I had been looking for things to do to fill my time. I was also conscious that I didn’t have a great number of friends outside of my work colleagues. Having found out about the Marauders from a flyer that I had seen, I decided to give it a go (even though I did not know any other members of the group). Reflecting now, on what the Marauders has brought to my retirement life, I am so glad that I had the courage to go on my first walk. Everyone was so welcoming and I can honestly say that I have made friends for life, been to places that I didn’t know existed, got stronger and fitter and had more than a few laughs along the way.

I joined the Marauders men’s health walking and talking group in late Decamber 2024. The group has helped me focus on my fitness and my goal to lose weight. In January 2025, I decided to join the 12-12-12 fitness group on a Monday afternoons. Since then, I have lost 14.5 lbs, and I feel so much better for it. Overall, it has helped my  fitness and mental well-being, I haven’t looked back since joining. I can only say that the marauders are a very friendly and supportive group of lads. So thank you to all.

Marauders Climb Snowdon – July 2025

On our trip to Snowdon in July 2025, our Marauders said….

“Not just this trip but every Marauders trip is so beneficial to the wellbeing of those who take part in it. Walk and talk is just that and the talking is as much if not more important but being in an open environment chatting with men from all backgrounds is so marvelous that words cannot describe the chemistry generated.”

“An absolutely fantastic trip that didn’t just benefit me physically but also mentally. Walking a mountain like that, on that route, with a group of men with such grit, determination and camaraderie gives you such a boost.”

“Being part of the planning team was a privilege. Seeing my own, and the other volunteers efforts deliver such a great outcome for the guys was brilliant. Personally I took the route up to the summit of Snowdon and supported others who were well outside of their comfort zone and seeing the resilience and determination from these guys was something else.”

“I feel proud to be part of such a great charity. I felt part of something special a group of mature guys being young again for a few days sharing an experience and all that goes with the effort to climb a big mountain… To see the bond between everyone the encouragement and genuine celebration and shared happiness for those that got to the top with a massive effort, it was quite emotional moment and I was part of it.”

“It was the first time I had ever been on a trip like this, the friendship and feeling of belonging was wonderful, everyone got on with each other… I just feel so lucky to have found the group and for everyone to be so supportive and friendly, it’s like one big happy family.”

“My experience is one I will treasure for the rest of my life. The Marauders have given back to me what I lost four years ago when I retired… I now have new friends… This group have given back to me the camaraderie, the laughter and the friendship I have dearly missed… The Marauders have given me new friends and made me realise at the age of sixty eight I am not on the scrap heap and capable of doing I never thought I could.”

“The idea of climbing Snowdon was something I would never have even contemplated. It was only through the encouragement of fellow Marauders that I decided to give it a go… The truth is the Marauders got me up Snowdon. The enthusiasm and companionship of these men is truly outstanding… I feel I am more resilient now. I am also more focused on the things I can do rather than the things I can’t do.”

“A joyful fun filled adventure with an awesome bunch of guys, that has brought back to me the camaraderie and wicked sense of fun that I had pretty much lost from my life… the Marauders group has been a breath of fresh air into my life and I will be forever grateful for the welcome that I received from day one.”

“Amazing experience, never in my life did I think I was capable of hiking up a mountain like this. It is so special being part of this group. My physical fitness has improved so much, but Mentally it has given me the confidence to go out and do things I would never have done before.”
